COMMIT TO KEIKI HOSTS MAYORAL CANDIDATE FORUMS
Mayor Mitch Roth and Dr. Kimo Alameda Discuss Early Childhood Priorities
On October 14, 2024, Commit to Keiki hosted two Hawaiʻi Island Mayoral Candidate Forums with incumbent Mayor Mitch Roth and Dr. Kimo Alameda. The forums provided an opportunity to understand their individual approaches to early childhood development and their plans to support the well-being of our youngest keiki and their families, if elected.
In their respective forums, the candidates addressed key issues, including the role of the county in supporting early childhood development, the future of the Early Childhood Coordinator position after ARPA funding ends, and strategies for incorporating early childhood priorities into county policies. They also discussed ways to engage the community and gather firsthand input on the pressing needs facing Hawaiʻi’s youngest keiki.
These forums provided a valuable platform for the community to understand each candidate’s vision for supporting our youngest keiki and their families. As election day approaches, it’s important for voters to consider how Hawaiʻi County’s next mayor will prioritize early childhood development in their leadership.
Watch the recorded forum discussions below to learn more about each candidate’s stance on these important early childhood issues.
